The Wailers Ski & Snowboard Club recently organized a heartwarming and impactful winter snowsports gear drive to support victims who lost everything in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Held at the Burbank REI on January 25th and 26th, the event brought the local skiing and snowboarding community together to help those in need.
Generous donors contributed a wide range of slightly used gear, including skis, snowboards, jackets, pants, base layers, socks and gear bags. Additionally, several leading snowsports brands, including Boulder Gear, Hot Chillys, and Polartec, stepped up to provide $10,000 to $12,000 worth of brand-new winter clothing for men, women and children to further support the cause.
Spreading the word was crucial to the event’s success, and Stick Docs played a vital role by promoting the drive and offering half-price tune-ups to those who provided proof of loss and received donated skis or snowboards. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our fellow skiers and boarders, winter gear was distributed to the individuals and families to help them return to the winter sports they love.
The atmosphere at the event was one of compassion and resilience, as recipients shared their stories and expressed deep appreciation for our donors. In the wake of such destruction, it was a powerful reminder of the strength and unity of the outdoor sports community.
"The mountains are healing, and the Wailers were honored to help," said a representative from the club. This event not only provided practical aid but also underscored the importance of providing friendship and support in times of hardship.
The Wailers Ski & Snowboard Club extends heartfelt thanks to all who donated, volunteered, and contributed to making the gear drive a success. Their generosity has made a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires, proving that even in the face of loss, the spirit of giving and adventure endures.
