Wailers Ski Club’s 3rd Annual Vertical Challenge

Sets New Fundraising Record

Vertical Challenge          Participants

The 3rd Annual Wailers’ Vertical Challenge was a resounding success, and we are thrilled to announce that we raised over $16,000. Our highest total in the event's history!

A massive thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and cheered on our athletes. This milestone wouldn't have been possible without your overwhelming generosity and spirit.

This year, our participants truly went above and beyond, shattering records and setting a high bar for years to come:

  • Fundraising Champion: A huge shoutout to Rob Ritter, who raised a whopping $3,100! Rob’s dedication to the cause was instrumental in helping us reach our record-breaking total. Way to go, Rob!!
  • The Record Breaker: Ashley Thomas turned a challenge into a historic performance. With a donor pledging $5 for every 1,000 vertical feet (VF), Ashley rode with incredible determination. Not only did she hit the 20,000 VF pledge max, but she kept going to rack up a staggering 30,005 VF for the day—A NEW RECORD! Amazing work, Ashley!
  • Other top fundraisers: Ruben Ruiz ($1870); Sigrid Noack of the Unrecables ($1560); Ashley Thomas ($1290).
  • Other top performers: Tom Bogna (29,994 VF); Tamara Loveland (22,119 VF); Ruben Ruiz (21,667).

We were thrilled to partner again with the The Unrecables, who were the beneficiaries of this year’s event and the recipient of a major portion of the proceeds raised. With five Unrecable students hitting the slopes that weekend, their energy and passion were contagious. Many members of the Unrecables joined us for the awards presentation, where the celebration was in full swing.

In the spirit of community and achievement, EVERYONE walked away with a prize, a goodie bag and a commemorative t-shirt.

Congratulations to all of our winners and participants for their dedication and enthusiasm. We can’t wait to do it all again next year—bigger, better, and even higher!

Wailers Host Successful Snowsports Gear Drive for Los Angeles Wildfire Victims

2025

The Wailers Ski & Snowboard Club recently organized a heartwarming and impactful winter snowsports gear drive to support victims who lost everything in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Held at the Burbank REI on January 25th and 26th, the event brought the local skiing and snowboarding community together to help those in need.

Generous donors contributed a wide range of slightly used gear, including skis, snowboards, jackets, pants, base layers, socks and gear bags. Additionally, several leading snowsports brands, including Boulder Gear, Hot Chillys, and Polartec, stepped up to provide $10,000 to $12,000 worth of brand-new winter clothing for men, women and children to further support the cause.

Spreading the word was crucial to the event’s success, and Stick Docs played a vital role by promoting the drive and offering half-price tune-ups to those who provided proof of loss and received donated skis or snowboards. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our fellow skiers and boarders, winter gear was distributed to the individuals and families to help them return to the winter sports they love.

The atmosphere at the event was one of compassion and resilience, as recipients shared their stories and expressed deep appreciation for our donors. In the wake of such destruction, it was a powerful reminder of the strength and unity of the outdoor sports community.

"The mountains are healing, and the Wailers were honored to help," said a representative from the club. This event not only provided practical aid but also underscored the importance of providing friendship and support in times of hardship.

The Wailers Ski & Snowboard Club extends heartfelt thanks to all who donated, volunteered, and contributed to making the gear drive a success. Their generosity has made a tangible difference in the lives of those affected by the wildfires, proving that even in the face of loss, the spirit of giving and adventure endures.

The event included meeting The Unremarkable for drinks and presenting them with nearly $7,200 in proceeds raised for their organization.  The Wailers express pride in supporting such and excellent organization and look forward to future collaborations, including working and skiing together.

Wailer Ski Club inaugural Vertical Challenge

Skiing for a Cause. Giving Back to Mammoth.

The Wailers Ski Club’s Inaugural Vertical Challenge brought members, teams, and supporters together for an unforgettable day on the mountain — all to raise funds for the Mammoth Lakes Foundation.

Participants took on the challenge by skiing and snowboarding as many vertical feet as possible, combining athletic effort, team spirit, and community generosity to support a meaningful cause.

Through their dedication and fundraising efforts, the event raised over Seven Thousand dollars, which were donated to the Mammoth Lakes Foundation, an organization that awards scholarships to local students and supports educational opportunities in the Mammoth Lakes community.
